Post by buckler »

Finded for substandard buckles in 1763 -69 period

He supplied Parker & Wakelin with silver buckles
"He made buckles for stocks, for boots and shoes , garters and knees, that could be 'neat', 'best', 'plain' or 'common' depending on the amount of workmanship involved " (Clifford page 112)

Will dated 1st August 1774, of George PADMORE , Silver Buckle Maker, of St Annes in the Liberty of Westminster proved at PCC. on 18th August 1774

" ...I give and bequeath to Thomas Denham of Foster Lane London Ironmonger and to my dear Wife Elizabeth Padmore ...
...my Brother James Padmore.. ... the rest and residue of my Estate I give and bequeath to my said Wife...appoint the said Thomas Denham and my said Wife Executors "
Winesses
William Squire and Sarah Kyle

The Universal British Directory of 1791 gives an entry for London of Denham Tappenden & Co , Ironmongers of 19, Foster Lane

29th August 1774 Eliza Padmore entered mark as bucklemaker at 19, Frith Street.

From surving buckles by the Padmores their shoe buckles were smaller than normal, indicating perhaps a specialism for ladies and childes shoes.
