COOK, Thomas II (Grimwade p.470)

Post by buckler »

The Will of Thomas Cooke of the Parish of Saint Leonard Foster Lane Citizen and Goldsmith was proved at PCC on 16 December 1761 NA - PROB 11/871)

This is a wordy and confusing document which indicates that he was almost certainly a batchelor and that his affairs and those of Richard Gurney, his silversmith partner, where very much interlocked.

No connections seen in the will to any other Cookes, except John Cooke of Coventry, Weaver - one of several bequests to friends or relations in Warwickshire and the Midlands , from whence he came. Other bequests included a gold ring to the value of one guinea to a list of friends which included the goldsmiths Walter Brind, Samuel Eaton and Sandyland Drinkwater

Richard Gurney proved the will as the sole executor named. He apparently failed to properly administer the will, or secure continuation of trusteeship and in 1818 (after 57 years) further administration was granted by the Court.
