There is a hole in my vesta dear Liza…..
This little quality Vesta case with beautiful niello checkered decoration, has a little hole in the lid, which I believe was made to stick a burning match in. Please see images and tell me your opinion. My questions country of origin and the name behind the makers’ mark of two letters G (C) and C divided by a tree and in a lozenge.
Thanks for your cooperation.Sizes; 5 cm tall, width 1.5 cm, deep 1.3 cm weight; 22 grams
For more details of the Vesta see;

Re: Silver vesta with checkered niello decoration
Hello oel,
C - C diveded by a tree? Is it possible the "tree" is part of a balance? CC remembers me to Charles Christofle, France. Make a look to http://www.925-1000.com/a_christofle.html

Hi Goldresearch,
Thanks, my first impression, after turning the image around, French — the Boar Head mark origin Paris; for minimum 800 fineness, dates used 1838-1962. This indicates assay by touchstone and the item has a limited or restricted warranty.
The maker’s mark I do not believe it to be for Christofle; do not recognize the balance but more like a tree or flower;
Regards,
Oel.

This is the mark of Gustave Camproger. See Arminjon no. 01916, p.185. The symbol is not a tree but a type of shrub called "un camphrier." Camproger worked in Paris at 17 rue Chapon from 1854-1870. His specialty was tobacco-related items.
