Danish silver: What is the purpose of the items?

Post by ds1969 »

I ask advice.
I bought two silver items of Danish production, XIX and early XX century: a large round spoon and a scoop with a slotted bottom.
According to the seller's description - a spoon for ice cream and a spoon for stew.
Is it so?

I would say that they are a cream ladle and a sugar sifter. Just right for strawberries and cream!

Not a sugar-sifter, the holes are too big, but a strawberry spoon to pick strawberries or similar and leave their syrup in the jar.

In another thread on Newark Silver, we have a catalogue page for a commercial wholesaler which shows a "Crushed Fruit Ladle". Seems possible that the item on the right may serve this purpose (non-commercially) if being paired with a fruit strainer (assuming it is) on the left.
[If you think this is odd, my personal preference relates to one piece for savoring Bird's (A hint if the name is edited out: An internationally known powdered mix of...) Custard and the other for consuming the steamed prunes that go into it.]
