I have a Reid & Sons Newcastle on Tyne grandfather clock I would love to know more about. Does anyone have any information on these clocks? I know Reid & Sons were also Silversmiths, but this is a beautiful clock. Don't know how old...any help out there? I have pics but don't see a way to post in this forum? Any info would be welcome!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your question regarding the clock would probably be better put to a specialist clock forum, but for information on Reid & Sons of Newcastle see:

Hey Trev.....Thanks for your reply. I had seen this post by dognose...in fact, when I Googled Reid & Sons, it is the only site that came up. I am wondering if they are no longer in business, as this post was from 2005, or if they no longer make clocks? Also, could you recommend a specialist clock forum that might be helpful to my search? I know several collectors of clocks, but they use eBay and I have had no luck there! Thanks again for your response. I will heed your advice and keep searching! :)

I also have a 8 day Reid and Sons grandfather clock from what I am told is the late 1890's. It has Westminster and Whittington chime capability as well as a night shutoff. The provenance of this clock, as I am told from the Canadian dealer whom I purchased it from, is that it was first purchased by Timothy Eton - the founder of the Eton merchandising empire in Canada. I am the second owner (if one doesnt count the dealer). It has a mahogany case. The face is highly engraved and appears to be gold plated. All parts are original and it keeps perfect time. I am going to contact Reid & Sons and see if I can get a copy of the bill of sale.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm sure we'll all like to see some images of your clock.

How to Add Images

http://www.tinypic.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is recommended.

I hope I followed your picture posting instructions correctly! To njpolo....if you find Reid and Sons, let me know. It is my understanding they closed shop in 2008, but I have been unable to confirm this. Thanks so much for your post and thanks Trev for giving me the opportunity to discover more about this clock.

Hi Jody,

That's a great looking piece, thanks for sharing it with us.

I visited their shop in November 2010, they were still there then, I'd be suprised if they are not there still.

Hey Trev,

I have tried Googling them, but nothing comes up. Maybe they don't have a web presence? Thanks so much for all of your help on this. I will keep trying!

I know it has been sometime since the last post, but I'm also looking for some information on a Reid & Sons longcase Clock. I have posted a photo. Continuing to research but if someone has any information that would be of great help.
