Pre 1917 Russia, Initials engravings, need help ID, please.

Post by andreysoft »

Hi,
I have identified the maker and silver assay (kokoshnik). This is a family piece from Russian before 1917 revolution. The cup was manufactured and checked in Moscow around 1907.
If possible would like to identified engraved initials in the front of the cup. It seems like there is a russian "И" in the center but could be an "N", however i have no guesses for the other part of the engraving.
Thank you for the help.

What you have is a "podstakannik" a tea glass holder. Unfortunately, as very often, the glass part is missing. The engraved letters are in my eyes Cyrillic ИТ or ТИ (Latin IT). Kindly show the marks thank you.

Thankx for your quick reply Qrt.S.
If its a "Т" i gotta think who that could've been in the family.
"И" = Иванов , the family branch last name.
Do you think its a millitary piece or civilian?

Also below is the link for the marks as requested.

Thanks but what makes you think it is a military piece? To me it looks like a quite ordinary "podstakannik" without its glass, so..? What are the measures? If you don't mind I'd also like to know who are the maker and assayer in your opinion?

Assayer is pretty straight forward in my view, "ил" = Ivan Lebedkin, women's head facing left so gotta be pre 1908. As for the maker, let me get back to you on friday, i'll get home from my travels and have the book there on makers.

measures = 8x7cm. I agree thats just an ordinary glass holder, wasnt sure though if the military used them as well, say out in the camp fields.
