S E (script) - buckle c1745 - perhaps Samuel Eaton

.
Found on one of two small buckles with London Lions Passant Guardant of the London 1740 -1756 form. Both buckles were originally sold as a pair but although similar are by no means the same. One has a long mark of E Bills see http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17740 and the other has it overstamped by the mark below

I think this may be a lost register mark of Samuel Eaton
Samuel Eaton was apprenticed in 1725 to Robert Elliot , a bucklemaker in Gutter Lane . Free of the Leathersellers ( as was Elliot) in 1733. First marks 1736 and 1738, in Gutter Lane. Next marks 1759 to 1767 also at Gutter Lane. Died 1767. See http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 74&t=23279

Now knowing a little more of Samuel Eaton I can add to the above details
Son of George Eaton the Elder, of Scaldwell in the county of Northampton , husbandman
He and John Eaton of Gutter were uncle and nephew

He was actually in Huggins Alley/Lane. A more correct address is 4,Huggins Lane, Parish of St Michael, Wood Street.

His last recorded mark was 17 September 1767. The Grimwade entry is slightly incorrect as he gives a mark for Eaton on 16 March 1768 which actually his mark of 16 March 1763. (this mark being clearly in between the entries for 1762 and 1765)

Burial Register of St Michael Wood Street records Samuel Eaton as being buried in the Middle Aisle on 8 November 1767 and his will for proved at PCC on 12 November 1767.
