Scottish Provincial Maker - J.P

Post by dognose »

Hi,

Any thoughts on the maker of the ladle:

'Two dots' - 'G' - 'Thistle' - 'R' - 'J.P'

This set of marks has been seen before, the badly struck ones being a 'G' and an 'R'

It was considered likely to be made at Elgin, but the only noted 'JP' working there was Joseph Pozzi, and these marks do not match anything like those previously recorded for him.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Trev,
I posted a similar item in Scottish Silver on Oct 21st 2012 re J.P marks, that you commented on,perhaps someone with fresh info can throw some light on these strange marks on your nice ladle and my teaspoon.
Perhaps the 2 half struck marks are just for the journeyman ? I did see an old auction listing that suggested J.Pringle Perth as the maker.
Any new theories welcome.

Regards Bob
