Hey guys,
Here is an interesting little piece. A leather purse with silver marks, each section hallmarked. I don't know much about purses, so if anyone else does, a rough date for this style would be great?
The inscription includes 'Petone', which is a town not far out of Wellington.
I'm thinking this is an unrecorded later mark of Louis Kerr of Nelson (recorded as Not Found in Shepherd). Anyone got any other candidates or thoughts?
Cheers, Ben
NZ Silversmith - Louis Kerr? (unrecorded mark)
Re: NZ Silversmith - Louis Kerr? (unrecorded mark)
Hi Ben,
Can you post a sharper image of the mark to the extreme right of your mark image. I really don't want to put a damper on things, but to my eye I see a version of the Halbmond and Krone (crescent moon and crown) of Germany.
Regards Trev.

Have to agree with Trev, it does look like the German crescent and moon marks.

Apologies, I meant crescent moon and crown, too early in the morning!user701 wrote:Have to agree with Trev, it does look like the German crescent and moon marks.
