Hello Everyone,
This mark is a curious one, Scottish provincial?
The anchor for Greenock? Or is it an even rarer area?
the makers mark appears to be LN?
I have loooked through all my texts on Provincial and have not been able to pinpoint this.
Thanks,
Argentgirl :)

Sorry, forgot to add that the cartouche has 1770 inscribed.

Hi,

Lovely pair of tongs. I certainly go along with Scottish Provincial, and Greenock. Unfortunately I can't find a maker "LN" . Could it be anything else? Also I find the date 1770 a bit curious, I would tend to go for more like 1790 for these tongs, 1770 just seems to be that little bit too early for my liking. That maker's mark looks overstruck. does anyone know of who might have been over-striking Greenock work?

Regards
.
