An Irish salver

Post by amena »

Hi all
Yesterday I found in a thrift store a nice Irish salver, but I need help to decipher the date.

Unfortunately, it has been repaired and the soldering has partially covered the marks, so I can not determine whether the year is 1749 or 1775.

The silvermaker's mark is not of any help as it is totally unrecognizable.

Maybe a trained eye can see details that I do not see.
Thanks for attention.

I think that the maker's mark is that of Ambrose Boxwell whose working dates are quoted as 1768-1823. This implies that the date must be 1775.

I think you're right.

I would have preferred 1749, but I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Many thanks
