A Celtic end spoon that measures nearly 9¾ inches in length (24.8 cm) and 80 grams in weight.

John Williams was born on the 15th August 1771, he served his apprenticeship under Carden Terry. He married Jane Terry, the daughter of Carden Terry, on the 6th August 1791 in St. Peter's Church, Cork, they appear to have had six children: Carden Terry Williams b.1797, d.1877. Catherine Terry Williams b.1797, d. 1864. Samuel Williams. John Williams b.1800, d.1882. Stawell Webb Williams b.1802, d.1880. Humphrey Evans Williams b.1803, d.1857.

This spoon would have been produced between 1791, the date that John Williams is thought to have set up on his own account, and 1795, the date he entered partnership with his father-in law, Carden Terry.

John Williams died on the 13th June 1806 and buried a few days later at Cork. His cause of death was described as 'Abscess in the lung from a cold while fishing'.
