A peculiarly marked Scottish spoon.

Here is a teaspoon marked in Edinburgh 1809. There is an additional single letter where I would expect the maker's mark to be. Any clues?

Hello,
It's from the Ziegler workshops. There is quite a lot marked with the single Z, apparently as there were several members of the family working in a large commune style workshops. There is quite a bit that was sold on for resale.

Thanks very much Richard. They did work in Edinburgh then?

Yes. See page 562 of Jackson, there are 5 of them listed, and another Alexander on p551. Bit of a dynasty.
