First time I've seen a bottom marked 1795 spoon....
Any thoughts?

Hi Matt,
From memory, I have a Newcastle teaspoon similarly marked. I've always presumed it was marked as such as it may have been a replacement spoon made to replace one missing from a set of bottom-marked ones and a special request made to the assay office for the position with the marking.

Yes that would make perfect sense it never crossed my mind that would be the reason I just thought it was very odd and maybe the assayer was remembering the good 'ol days of bottom marking! Thanks Trev for the thoughts on this.
