unusual Scottish dessert spoons

Post by rat-tail »

Hi All - any help on a maker here would be appreciated. A set of five silver dessert spoons assayed Edinburgh 1810, maker WC.
The spoons are unusual in that while they have fiddle ends, they have no shoulders and Hanoverian shaped bowls. Look a little odd really.
My copy of Jacksons lists no match for this period working out of Edinburgh. Could these eve the marks of William Constable working out of Dundee. Or an unknown Edinburgh Smith.
Any thoughts on the strange design - the bowls don't look like they have been reshaped.

Regards Frank

Hi Frank, To me it looks very similar to an unattributed mark often found on work by John Zeigler, the date would match also.

Regards,
Martin.

I have a set of Dundee Scottish spoons that are the same design as these, they call them oar pattern rather than fiddle pattern.
