ITY & co gerorgian? silver wine coaster unknown marks

Post by sanssouci6 »

here are pics of a wine coaster i have had for awhile. as you can see it has the lion passant a gerorgeIII ? duty mark, the makers mark of ITY&co and a weird date letter of a crowned K in an oval. does anyone know what any of that means? i can't find anything that remotely looks like this in any of my hallmark books. i don't think it is sheffield plate.

That's a very nice piece.

It was made in Sheffield 1809 by John T. Younge & Co.

The date letter and citymark in one cartouche is peculiar to Sheffield from 1780-1854, and was only used on small articles.
