Fruit knife maker

Post by Granmaa »

Here is a rather poor quality fruit knife with the appropriate maker's initials: CAC. It was made in 1923 Sheffield; does anyone know who it is?

Are you sure about the date mark? Looks more like a 1898-99 mark.

I should have cited Jackson's Pocket Edition at p152.

Hi Miles-
I am new to this forum, but it seems that the makers mark looks more like a "C.MC" the first "C" is a little fancier which I would think would be the makers given name and the "MC" would be a sire name of like Mc. I also think this due to the fact that the picture seems to show a period between the two.

You could be right Byron, but I think the mark has been stamped twice thus giving the impression of an M and making the first C look a bit strange.

Granmaa...Is there a pic of the whole mark available or is that it?

Byron...instead of a pearl could that be just a continuation of the base of the "M"? Just offering another possibility.

Hi John,
You should have a bar at the bottom of your screen, if you move it to the right will enable you to see the whole mark,

Hello again-

double struck makes sense. In this case who has a star in there mark? at least that is what it looks to be midway in the "M"
I am new at this and requesting the rest of you help me in my learning curve ambitions.

Again Byron, I think it is just the poor impression that makes it look like a star.

The maker's mark looks like some kind of overstamp to me. The two "C"s differ in style.

There is no mark of either "CAC" or CMC" in the Sheffield Assay Office Register which suggests that it is somthing other than the overstamping has created.
