i have a little trouble to date it ... could anybody please help me - kind regards tom from austria
what kind of spoon is this - and who hase made it please ?
Tom,
Well, it was made in 1942 Sheffield; I don't know the maker I'm afraid.
As to the type of spoon, I've never seen anything quite like it. I'm tempted to say the design is based on a mid-17th century style called puritan spoons (pictured below) but the way it narrows towards the end and the strange markings dissuade me.
These markings could be for decoration, but that's hard to believe!
Try measuring the spaces between the lines; if they're 16th of an inch markings then the spoon could well be used for measuring.

I can only offer a possibility for the mark JRH. In 1925 Joyce Rosemary Himsworth registered a maker's mark at the Sheffield Assay Office. She produced cutlery designs for B. Worth & Sons amd made items in her home in the 1930's. She stopped silversmithing in the 1960's.
I'm not sure this is her mark, but it might be worth checking into.
