Some help on identifying makers mark & city mark Chalice

Post by garet_tank »

I am rather new at this, so any help on this would be great. Makers mark appears to be a letter part cut of maybe I or J or T followed by a an NM. Also I could not identify the city mark as it appears to be worn.
Thanks again.

Made in London in 1885-6....Made by John Newton Mappin (of Sheffield)who later joined with George Webb to form the company still known as Mappin and Webb. Most of his work would have been assayed at the Sheffield office but Religious items were often sent to London for assay. Not sure why this happened. Best wishes, Mike.
