Silver candlesticks Birmingham hallmarks?

Post by aaron123 »

Hi there,

To start, I have never tried to identify hallmarks before so I've got no idea what these really are. These candlesticks (only took photo of one) are solid sterling and belonged to my great great grandmother. I believe they were made in Birmingham and I'd love to know more about the maker and age.

Thanks!

Your candlesticks were assayed in Birmingham during the assay year 1963/64. The sponsor's mark is that of Ellis & Co, a Birmingham company.

Thanks for the quick response. Are you sure the date is correct? They were a wedding present to my great grandparents (from my great, great grandmother) who got married in the late 30's (It even has their names on the side).

Cheers guys, we obviously have some family history that needs to be cleaned up haha. There were a few sets of these made for the family so I'm guessing we may have a replica.
Thanks again.

1938 to 1963 (or 1939 to 1964) would be 25 years - a silver anniversary.
