Salt London 1872

Post by silverfan »

Hi all,
this salt Shaker (London 1872) bears a maker's mark, which I read "GE" or "GF". Can anybody identify the Maker?

Hi,
I think more options for the second letter should be explored.

One possibility would be George Fox (C T & G Fox). His GF mark has a very distinctively shaped cartouche and I think I may discern a touch of the right outline in the first picture of the original post. The mark is illustrated on the ever useful Silvermakersmarks site if you want to check it out.

I agree with agphile that George Fox is a very likely candidate for this mark - that was my immediate thought before I read the subsequent posts.
