Hello. The napkin ring. Enamel. Inside there is a signature and the year 1891. Metal similar to silver but the sample is not found. Thank you.

Hi ~ welcome to the forums.

Are you sure there aren't quality and/or maker's marks under all that tarnish - maybe near the area I pointed the arrow?

Hi,
Not sure but it could be David Andersen:
See here and try to compare. It`s easier for you; images are rather small and not very sharp.

I realized that maker's marks for David Andersen. Manufactured in 1891. I want to ask the experts, as products are subject to partial loss of enamel bad? Or at the age of 127 years can be considered good?

Hello again,
I think the maker has been identified.
In regard of partial enamel loss - it happens, not really ``bad`` but not ``perfect``either. There is enamel over 100 years old in perfect condition.
Partial loss decreases the value but that`s subjective.
And it cannot be repaired, enamel being powdered glass fired at very high temperature.
Enjoy your napkin ring.

AG2012 once again thank you very much. I am glad that you, as an expert, have determined the piece be quite a collector's. And the subject of the famous manufacturer. This ring for napkins is very similar to the Russian products made of silver with enamel.

Scandinavian enamel was (and still is) of superb quality. For example, Anton Michelsen of Denmark mastered one of the most difficult enamels, i.e. blood red translucent enamel.
