Silver & Enamel Spoon , Russian?? Help Required.

Post by dartsil »

I have here a very interesting silver spoon with excellent enamel work and a unusual handle. The enamel work is excellent and the work towards front of bowl is transparent and resembles a stain glass window when held to light.

My problem is , yes on first glances it looks Russian but I am not so sure judging by the spoons hallmarks... Appologies for images on marks but its difficult to get into them with where they have been stamped.

First part looks like MH then there is 800 then the other mark which you can see clearer in the images.

If anyone can state its origin and approx date as well as a possible maker I would be most greatful.

I have even pondered with Italy & Germany on this spoon?

Hi,

Not Russian, but Norwegian. See Marius Hammer at: http://www.925-1000.com/Fnorway_marks.html#1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is no Russian spoon, it is from Norway by Marius Hammer, known for his excellent enamel work. 800 is the silver content.

The enamelling technique is known as Plique-a-Jour, for more details see: http://www.925-1000.com/silverglossary2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
