Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
I would like to know if anyone has a way to date this piece. And; what exactly is it? I know sometimes things/items have multiple uses but this being Danish I though perhaps it had/has some specific use.

Hi Mitch,
Just an outrageous shot in the dark, but I would take a guess at 1901.

Re: Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
dognose you've done it again!! Thanks!
I thought of the Art Nouveau period the minute I layed eyes on it. But for sure the maker's link you provide sure matches up nicely with Simon Groth's mark, the use of which apparently ended by 1904. Tha would put it squarely in the Art Nouveay period; very cool. I love this little... whatever it is. The repousse work is just plain stunning.
thanks again!

Re: Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
The Royal Cph mark is before 1923.
58 is the painters number.
584 is either a patern number or could be a color code.
M is for Michelsen

use for chokolade.
Re: Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
Fabulous!!!
So as dognose and Hose_dk imply, the "M" with the crown over it could be A. Michelsen. The page on Danish smiths says just "1930's" as to a time frame for that stamp. Question is, why are there two distinct maker's marks on this piece?, a collaboration perhaps? One doing the silver smith work and the other the repousse? For sure as dognose points out, the date is "01".
Chocolate eh? I love that!
Thanks everyone!!

Where do you see two maker's marks?

I thought the "M" with the crown was a maker's mark... as shown on the page you noted in your first post, third one down??

Re: Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
Hi Mitch,
Are you referring to the fact that there are two complete sets of the same marks? If any product is constructed from more than one piece, each part would be marked. More commonly seen in British sterling. Otherwise there are no additional makers mark there beyond the A Michelsen mark.

Re: Royal Copenhagen silver mounted pitcher
The set of marks is 3 Towers for Copenhagen and silver.
M for maker and thats Michelsen
925 for sterling - 3 Towers is for minimum 830
The last mark is Guardein - he has nothing to do with maker - the guardein controles the silver content.
The 3 Towers and guardein mark is set by guardein.
Makers mark (and in this case) 925 is set by maker.
