Russian enamel spoon

Post by niceguy1 »

HELLO

Who is the maker of this Russian enameled spoon? The mark looks like F O or F U or perhaps E O

Thanks.

Hi -
the mark looks like the by hallmarking crippelt mark of Samoschin, Eros - something often happened with the minimal space on enemal spoons.
Some legible marks from him:

I have a different opinion. The shovel hallmark was used 1908-1917(26). Therefore the suggested maker is too old and it is rather clearly EO. Unfortunately I think that this EO is one of those to name unknown masters in Moscow. I have no trace of such a mark in my records, but....?

Hi -
the reason why I name sources is: one should read them. There is stated, that Samoschin (the firm) existed until 1908. Spoons and other objects from this firm are often seen and not uncommon - mostly enamel and niello - because the firm existed for many years and had a large production. The range of products ranging from basic to excellent.
Here some examples:

His marks are sometimes sloppy - the form differs over the years - see photos. I believe it is him - but everything is possible .....
