Riga spoon 1862. Who is the maker?

Post by Dad »

Hi, All.

I can't define who is the maker, again. I hope for your help.
Under "Bergholtz" I see another punch (IGM)
May be Bergholtz is retailer.

IGM in Riga is Johann Gotthardt Mullack born 17.7.1813 and active 1850-1892 when he died. The other mark is most likely a retailer's logo.

Thanks you Qrt.S for your help.
I would have to guess, who is IGM.)) But I was confused by a letter I. Because a big maker mark includes a letter J.
Like that:

Unfortunately in your reference book there is nothing about Bergholtz. It is strange. All punches of retailers were considered in assay office.

You are welcome. Please note that the letters J and I are often superseding each other.

Yes there are three Bergholtz mentioned in my reference but none of them fits you mark. It looks like L.Bergholtz or is it perhaps I.Bergholtz? In that case it could be the second one on the list below, but why two makers? I still think it is a retailer's mark.

-Bergholtz Ernst Diedrich, 1793-1798
-Bergholtz Bernhard Johann Diedrich, 1852-?
-Bergholtz Georg Gottlieb, 1778-1786
