Hi Trev -

this is a purse (inlet missing) - recognizable on the markings on the outside, size and the missing holders for the rubberbands for cigarettes.
Maker could be Ogorodnikow, Aleksandr Nikolajew, 1898.

What would the liner normally be made from? Silk, leather?

Hi Trev -
most of the liners are made of silk - but the bigger purse´s liners (handbags) are often made of leather. I show some examples from my collection:
