Post by Dad »

Hi, All.
I with regret observe as activity of contributors in the themes of "Russian Silver" calms down. It isn't good.
I will try to reanimate. ))

What is it? What assumptions you have?

Hello Dad,

Yes. unfortunately I have noticed the same, not much activity here.
Anyway your question is good. I'll give you my best guess:

It could be Valk (ВАЛКА) in Lithuania. The assayer CH as well as the master HJ (Judelevičius, Hiršas ???) are unknown to name at least to me. Do you know their name?

Thank you, Qrt.S.

Unfortunately, I have no solution of this problem. But I know definitely that it not Valk. The Russian assay office never functioned in this town. These are imaginations from Postnikova's book.

I see the maker mark like ГН.

( If it not fake..... )

OK, maybe Postnikova made a mistake. However, the mark #115 in P has some similarities to the mark you show. The years match as well. If you mean that there was never an assay office in Valk so where from is the assaying mark #115 CH??

Yes, I agree. Authors of the book certainly saw such punches on museum's items.
Besides, such punches in the book (P.-L.) are written down for the town of Toropez (#3730, #3731). However I repeat, as well as for the Valk: the assay office never functioned in the Toropez.
I think, at first it is necessary to define what is the town, that is designated by such town mark.
