Big confusion...

Post by Zolotnik »

Hi all -
a spoon with many marks. Import mark Riga under Russian rule, Rumanian mark 800/1000 (import/export?), and a bear (Swiss or German, or...?).
Who is who?

Very confusing indeed. The Russian import mark was used 1882-1899. The facing dolphins mark is a Romanian domestic silver hallmark, used 1906-1926 for the fineness of 800/1000 and the bear....??? It could be whatever...The marks seems to be in conflict.

But the spoon is very nice. How big is it?

Hi. I think you will find that the spoon was made in Berlin, then imported into Russia and then Romania. Regards, Liv.

Hi liviu1 -

not Berlin but maybe Berndorfer Metallwaren Fabrik...

I have a tea caddy spoon from Khlebnikow in the same pattern - a very common pattern in that time - made by Wilkens and others.
