Russian Pointer - Query 18th century

Post by joshgav »

Hi,

I bought a silver pointer from a reputable dealer, he seemed certain that that item was genuine but having tried to research the marks it doesn't feel right to me (very amateur opinion only.) So I thought I would come to you before taking the item back to the dealer for a refund, can anyone help?

I have posted both a picture of the item and a picture of the marks.

Thanks,

I'm sorry but the truth is that your yad is a poor fake. The marks are not even close to how the marks look like in the 18th century. Return it to the seller as soon as possible. Please note that almost all tora pointers at sale are spurious objects. I haven't seen an authentic one in years.
FYI, there is an АЮ master but he was active in mid 19th century and in St Petersburg. Its town mark differs quite a lot from the one on your yad. There never was an assay master with the initials АИ etc. etc.

Please do not buy things if you are unable to verify their authenticity and especially not judaica.
Sorry one more time my good man!

By the way, the faker must be a complete moron making such markings!
