SAUCE BOAT

Post by AG2012 »

Sauce boat, hand chased, gilded, 8 inches long, 16 oz. year 1838
``JW`` the maker should be Jacov Wiberg, right? (Active 1829 — 1852).Postnikova-Loseva 3044.
Has anyone come across this assayer? Clearly ND, not Dutkin (2106), although N may look like I , but this is N, no doubt.
Thanks for looking and helping

Hi AG2012 -

assayer is: Moscow, Dubrovin Nikolaj L. on duty 1822-1855 (PL # 2104, typo, read НД!)

To AG2012

You are mentioning another assayer i.e. Dutkin and referring to P#2106. That is another mistake. P#2106 is most likely Ilya Dubinin (ИД) No "Dutkin" know in Moscow. P#2105 is Vasily Dubinin (ВД) before he moved to Jaroslav. Sorry, a bit out of topic but since you mentioned Postnikova...

2106 #PL says Dutkin,1838-1846.If the book is wrong not my fault - I mentioned the source, though.Hoping the mistake will be corrected in new editions. I will remember Dubinin and have already written his name beside 2106.Thank you.

I didn't say it was your fault. I only made a nice try to inform you of one of the hundred faults and insufficient info in Postnikova. There will hardly be a new edition. Postnikova past away some years ago in the age of 83 if I remember correctly.
