The Italian Jewel of the Twentieth Century

Il Gioiello Italiano del XX Secolo

Until 20th March 2017

The exhibition, organized by the historic jewel Melissa Gabardi, tells for the first time, through the exhibition of over 150 works, the scenery of Italian production in 1900, tracing the evolution through chronological sections dedicated to the Neo - historicism, to Liberty, Art Deco, the production of the thirties, forties and fifties, until you get to the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties: the path of the birth of the "made in Italy".
The archival research, have in fact highlighted the homegrown technical excellence and the perfect organization of work in the goldsmith workshops, and have also enabled us to reconstruct the history of Italian jewelers, often active in real family business, arrived today at the third or the fourth generation.
Parade before our eyes so different types of precious objects - tiaras and diadems, necklaces umbilicals, rings, bracelets, brooches and earrings - made from large Italian goldsmith names: from the splendor of the jewelry and then Mario Gianmaria Buccellati, the creations of the Milan Alfredo Ravasco (some works will be on public display for the first time), the Genoese Filippo Chiappe, of the Turin Musy, the Roman Petochi and Milan Cusi, the neoarcheologismo Codognato, to jewelry in coral Ascione family.
The jewels were also studied in their historical, social and economic, with particular reference to contemporary artistic culture (fashion, design, architecture), as well as events and personalities that have characterized the various ages and influenced public opinion, in particularly members of royal families and movie stars, who were inspiring models of collective taste.
The ambitious exhibition project of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum aims to show how the history of jewelry and of Italian twentieth century jewelers joints through an interesting trail: while in the first half of the twentieth century Italian creativity has often drawn inspiration from the contemporary French production, starting the second half of the last century has also chosen, thanks to absolutely brilliant technical and creative skills and innovative some great jewelers, an autonomous path, becoming a landmark of the international jewelery production, this would put the birth of the "made in Italy".
