Pattern ID?

Post by djmorgz »

Anyone recognize this floral pattern? Pieces are simply marked; 'sterling'.
Thanks in advance...

Hi - the pattern is Gorham's 'Virginiana', introduced in 1905, but unfortunately, your pieces were not produced by Gorham, they're fairly recent recasts. If you take a close look, it's evident that they were cast rather than die-stamped, the detail is less distinct than it should be, there are voids, inclusions and cracks, and the 'piercing' was done in the casting rather than saw-cut. Faint remnants of the Gorham marks on the genuine pieces that were used for the moulds can be seen on the back just above the bowl and below the largest Poppy - the 'STERLING' was stamped with a basic punch from a jewelers' supply, but on the plus side, these items are pretty much always actually .925 silver...

THANKS! I know they are somewhat poor recasts, just didn't know the pattern. I appreciate your wisdom. ;)
