Colonial table spoon. Any help appreciated.

Post by 42jbb »

Hi I have this colonial table spoon. I can't work out the maker. The punch is quite bashed. I think it might be Jamaica or Barbados. The initials are the portrait instead of Landscape the usual for the region. If any one can provide any information. I would be very grateful.

Hi,

The letters look to be TD with a pellet between - the crudeness of the letters is similar to the published mark of Thomas Dixon of Bermuda, working circa 1784, which would be about the right period. The published mark has a different shape to the punch but the style of the die-sinker is quite similar, at least from my perspective. Perhaps this is an alternate mark for Thomas Dixon?

Best,
