partial Samuel Johnson makers mark?

Post by WarrenKundis »

Had tried to identify what I believe is a Samuel Johnson makers mark (NY active 1780-1796) on the particular style of the S and N. Would that be correct? Your thoughts and opinions are always appreciated.

Just as a side note, I do enjoy the particular style of engraving monograms from this period. They have a particular style and charm of their own. Like a swirling wind that pulls the leaves from the ground along with it.

Here is the link to the Samuel Johnson makers mark I am using for comparison. http://sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Sil ... /SSJ3.html

During a recent conversation, have it on good authority that because of the drop or a lack there of, this spoon is dating closer to 1825 but final conformation is yet to be made.

Could it be an alternate for Samuel H. Johnson of Albany (related to Johnson & Godley)???
