Are these Egyptian Hallmarks?

Post by TheGodless »

Hi I came across a couple of white metal figures a greyhound and a mule I think and they have some very small punch marks in there flanks that look similar to the Egyptian ones shown on the opening page.

Was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if they are silver hallmarks or just psuedo marks. Pictures are attached but the marks are very small and these are the best I can get with the limitations of my camera.

Thank you you for your reply Silverport

From reading some of the other posts on the forum there seems to be difficulties in getting dates of items from the Egyptian system, but at least I now know that it is Egyptian silver assayed in Cairo from 1946 onwards so that can only help in additional research.
