I have a gold walking cane with I and S and 156 stamped above one another. That's all I can see. What do these stand for? I tested this piece and it tests for gold. How come there's no gold marking? Is this common?[/b]

WANT TO IDENTIFY GOLD HALLMARKS
YOu can't get a good answer without a picture, unfortunately. The marks you describe may be nothing more than the part number for the top.
Is it actually gold?
Do you see any other marks, anywhere? (Look really carefully as some marks are small and placed inconspicuously by competent craftsmen who don't want marks to spoil their handiwork.
