Help identifying maker's mark " >>--G--> "

Post by kira237 »

I have been searching for information about the origin of the ring in the included photo. My great grandfather claimed that it was taken from a soldier during combat in Japan, but he was known to bend truths, and the story behind the ring sounds fairly exaggerated. It's been passed down through four generations now, and I'd like to know more about where the ring came from. If it helps, he was in Japan during the world war, but also lived in California and New York from the 1930s to the 1970s, when the ring was given to my grandfather. The stamp inside the ring looks like a G with an arrow running through it, pointing to the right.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

To me, it looks like R.L. Griffith & Son Co. of Providence, R.I.:
