Hello

I have a silver pocket watch (fusee movement) and the marks on the case are Chester. The maker's mark is AG (can't find that maker on the makers mark list on this website) but I am not sure of the year. I have looked on the Chester date letters, and being a novive, I can't tell the difference between the 1893 and the 1828 year marks, they both look the same to me. Could anyone tell me which date mark appliesplease? I have a photo here: http://www.specialbranch.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Regards

Mark

Hello Mark

Welcome to the Forum.
The only watch case maker registering an AG mark at Chester was Alfred Gurney of Coventry who did so in 1875.
For that and other reasons including the fact that the Chester town mark shield for 1823 had a straight base the case was assayed in 1893-4.

Best Wishes
Mike

That's fantastic, thank you very much for taking the time answer my query. I didn't think it was that old :)
