Backwards C and an L STER what does this mean?

Backwards C and an L STER what does this mean?

I have a bunch of old grad rings, all of them are stamped CL STER (the C is backwards on all of them) Any idea what this means. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have not seen too many items that only say STER and not STERLING
