NEUS hallmark on serving spoons

Post by samuelc »

I have a set of 6 serving spoons that I'm suspicious of (germansilver?) Image that all have this hallmark, NEUS also what appears to be an 'N' with a teardrop above it. Some have an 'O' instead. not sure what that all means. They seem a little thicker then normal coin silver although with that hammered look ... thinner then cast. I've looked everywhere.. I have a few references myself.. no luck at all..

Thanks, Sam

Hi,
The spoon was made in Augsburg, Germany.
Johann Georg Christoph Neus, died 1857, master since 1803.
Not sure about the fineness, either 12 or 13 Loth.

Thank you! Germany of all places. Not so far out as a great, great, great grandmother comes from that area.
