Hi,

An image of the whole item may help with identification.

What makes you think that the box is Italian?

Hi,
for sure is typical italian silver jewellery box!
regarding the mark, it is belonging to the period 1872-1934 , but I can say that style is typical of the first half XX century so the correct timing of the piece is 1900-1934.
Regarding the beginning of XX century italian marks often is helpful when you can find two objects, of the same maker, one before 1934 and one later, that reports maker symbol marks and the numerical registerd mark number, so you can find the association between symbol and ID maker...that is easier to find....
I have seen that symbol mark more that one time...once i find again or recall it, I'll add the information.

numbers 1 and 2 did mean anything, often are put on the pieces to recognize pieces to put together (IE cap and body)
you can easyly find this on tea pots, coffee pots cigarettes silver compact powders box...all made in two pieces, or you can find additionally on sets (as tea sets) for the same reason (identifying alla the pieces of the same set)

I have seen another box like this, totally equal!
same shape, same marks ....
but with an additional picture of the inner, and the inner was in vermaille.
The object is defined as jewelry box of first 900, matching with what i think, but now I want add that most probably is not a jewelry box, that mainly are of oval or rectangular shape (or similar to rectangular), but a candy box.
Vermail is used to protect from salt, sugar an so on...
