Austria from 1922, odd toucan

Post by orthogonal »

At first I thought it was the S for Salzburg, but its a Σ or a veered W for Wien.

Klinkosch?, 800, import mark of Yugoslavia (1919-1933).

Is this toucan genuine or did I just buy another fake?

Hi,

Nothing wrong I believe. Austria domestic silver hallmarks, in 1922, after Austria became an independent country, the core image of the 4th standard is the head of a toucan facing left. Regional assay office letter W for Wien/Vienna date office in operation 1938-2001, the Σ is for Wien date office in operation 1922-1943 and the and < is for /wien, date office in operation 1922-2001. Indeed Yugoslavia import mark, the horse head I, to denote siver 800 fineness. And if there appears to be a little 2 near the horse's mouth; regional assay office for Zagreb.

Wow, that was quick (and also pleasing). Thank you for that elaborate response!

Hi Oel,

Perhaps a little off-topic, but can you tell us, besides Belgrade and Zagreb, were there other regional assay offices? If so, can you tell us the numbers and locations?
