American Silversmith A. Rasch

Post by Joerg »

Hi

can anybody tell me something about an American Silversmith named Anthony or Anty Rasch? Probably from the early 1800's in New England.
I have a small teaspoon from him an would like to know more of the maker.

Thank you

According to Rainwater: "Anthony Rasch was born about 1780 near Passau, Bavaria, where he learned the trade of silversmithing and goldsmithing. Sometime between 1801 and 1803 he came to Philadelphia, where he worked for a time with Simon Chaudron, and later by himself. He was also briefly associated with Goerge Willig, Jr. He went to New Orleans in 1820 to see about setting up business there, but returned to Philadelphia to complete his business there first. He moved to New Orleans permanently in 1821. With the exception of a trip to Germany and France in 1836-1837, he lived the rest of his life in New Orleans, where he died in 1858. (Bacot, Silver, Jan.-Feb. 1986, pp. 20-21)"
