MARK IMAGE REQUIRED

Can we get an image of the entire object as that may help? The mark seen may have been used in conjunction with an actual maker's initials mark which is left out. I seem to recall seeing this with one book entry, but it may be a common added mark not specific to that particular maker.
Not an answer but a start--Seems to be some searchable threads related to both "star/lion/D" and "lion/star/D". In your case, I see a five point star rather than six. Here is another (different order, six point) related to a NY retailer's mark found on another site (see Pelham): http://sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Ret/RetP1.html
Thread for "Star/Lion/D" with five points and raised tail with attribution given (no photos avail): viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2604&p=4579&hilit=coin+star%2Flion%2FD#p4579
