Date on Gorham kettle and stand

Post by Silver Martin »

Please help me date a Goham tea kettle and stand. It does not have a little date mark which makes it so easy to pinpont a year of manufacture. I know there was a period around WWII that Gorham didn't use the date marks, but the decoration of this just doesn't look like that vintage. I've searched the underside of both pieces and find only these markings:

Top row: (Lion, facing right) (Anchor) (G)
Second row: STERLING
Bottom row: K V T

Both the kettle and stand are heavily decorated w/ laurel leaves & berries, panels, foliage sprays scroll work.

The kettle has two distinct features. First, the ivory insulators on the handle are carved to match the fluting of the silver it is joined to (as opposed to a simple oval or round shape). Secondly, the lid hinge is "in board", if that makes sense to those of you with boats. The hinge mechanism is part of the lid itself, rather than projecting over the side.
