Are these Hanau marks and can anyone identify a maker?

Post by emptguy »

Hello Forum.

I recently purchased a large scent silver bottle around 7" long. The import marks are for London 1897. The importer is JS. Can anyone identify that maker here or should I try the British forum?

What I'd really like to know though is the maker. I am making the assumption these are Hanau Pseudo Hallmarks. My apologies for the limited view. The "strings" do get in the way.

Hi Ian,

The British importer registered in London J.S for John George Smith, See: http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make ... JU.html#JS

The pseudo marks could be for Neresheimer. See https://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html #[s513] and S[s520]

Peter,

Thank you, excellent spot. I looked through this page and couldn't make out any matches and clearly needed to look closer. I do think you may be right.

Trev,

Thank you for pointing me to this string. Fascinating articles and clips and the information on John George Smith especially.
