Gmund or Austro Hungarian ?

Hi All. I have 2 similar beakers which appear to have hallmarks for both Gmund and the old Austro Hungarian Empire. The Gmund mark is the unicorn head facing left and the Austro Hungarian mark is a co-joined VR which I think may be a duty mark. Both beakers are stamped with the 13 standard mark and the one has what I think is a makers mark IW over 13. They look to date from around 1860. Would be grateful for any information. Many thanks. John

Hi,
Unicorn mark really looks like Schwäbisch Gmünd.
Austria - Hungary Empire ``VR`` mark in this shield was used 1866-1922 for antique articles (several sources including Tardy).
In a word, there is no inconsistency between those marks.

Thanks AG. Are you saying that the beakers were made in Gmund and then moved to the Austro Hungarian empire where they were marked with the co-joined VR ? Regards

Right, the unicorn mark is very distinctive and besides, there is no Ausro-Hungary town mark similar to Gmund.
