Family lore has it that this spoon was purchased by my grandmother in Italy in 1906. Has anyone an idea of who the maker might have been, when it was made and what it is about?

Thank you.
Mike

Hi, its a spoon from Bad Kissingen Germany (but referred to by the generic term Hanau Silver). Looks like part of the of David Kugelmann mark, can't really see the other pseudo mark but regardless it is German late 19th, early 20th century Historicist style and make. The maker was known to have exhibited in the Chicago worlds fair of 1893 so perhaps your grandmother picked this up at the Milan Worlds fair in 1906 where he may also have exhibited?

Legrand Mogol,

That makes very good sense. She studied violin at the Willard School in Berlin about 1908.

Thank you for your help.

All,

I did a search for Hanau pseudomarks on this site and found a spoon that appears identical–except for the marks–under Neresheimer, Hanau~Figural Silver Spoon.
