Hi members
I have had a closer look at the marks ,It looks like it is the letter U interlaced with the letter V .
I have posted a drawing of the marks.I cannot find any similar marks anywhere on this site.
Looks to be maybe Hanau.
Regards Guido .

Hi,
Left: crescent and crown 800 is German mark after 1866.
Right: Austria-Hungary import mark 1901-1921.

HI Oel-Ag many thanks, great info .I still think it looks like an upside down U interlaced V,than AV.I may be wrong ,the base of the U crosses the middle of the V and makes it look like an A .but on looking closer one side of the U sticks out from the V,goes down across the middle and sticks out on the other side. It may not matter if it is AV or AU it is probably the same mark.
Again Many thanks. hopefully someone may come up with the maker?

Hello again,
If you are referring to the mark on the right, there is no doubt it`s Austria-Hungary import mark.

Hello!
I must disagree, unfortunatly AG2012 is wrong.
The hallmark is a hungarian, and just a hungarian silver hallmark, 0.800 silver fineness between 1937-1966.
At this period Hungary was totally separate and sovereign state.
Best regards!

Krisztián is right. The mark on the pillbox compared with Hungarian import mark and Austria-Hungary (bottom).

Hi AG2012 and Kristian.
Many thanks for both of you for finding the answer (special mention to Kristian) these marks are sometimes very confusing.is this maybe going to help in finding the maker?Does anyone have a list of Hungarian silver makers of this period?
Again many thanks Guido.
